We Did It! Splash Pad Officially Open

After years of planning, fundraising, and hard work, our community Splash Pad is officially open – and it’s already becoming a favourite spot for families.

As many of you may recall, this project started back in 2011–2012, but like many big ideas, it hit a few bumps along the way. Thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers who stepped up and got the project moving again, the dream never faded. Working together with the City, community members, donors, and local supporters, the Splash Pad committee brought the project across the finish line.

One of the best parts? Kids helped shape the design. Committee members visited other splash parks with local children and asked them what they liked best. Many of those ideas made their way into the final design, helping create a space that kids actually wanted to play in.

The Splash Pad was funded through a mix of City support, provincial funding, community donations, developer contributions, and many hours of volunteer fundraising including casinos.

A special thank you goes to out Splash Pad Committee whose determination and leadership helped restart the project when – at one point –  it seemed unlikely to move forward. We’d also like to thank every volunteer, donor, board member, and community supporter who contributed their time, energy, ideas, and encouragement along the way.

At the opening celebration, Mayor Knack spoke about how important spaces like this are for families and neighbourhoods. A splash pad is more than just a place to cool off – it’s a place where kids can play, neighbours can connect, and communities can grow stronger.

The celebration wrapped up with a cake cutting, group photos, and plenty of smiles despite the weather.

To everyone who helped make this happen: thank you! This Splash Pad belongs to the whole community, and we hope it brings fun, laughter, and happy memories for many years to come.
