Board Update – 2025 Bylaws Approved
Hello neighbours,
We’re happy to share that members of the Windsor Park Community League voted to adopt a new set of bylaws at our Special General Meeting on June 23. These new bylaws replace the previous version from 2016 and are designed to better reflect how we work today – and to support our volunteers and community more effectively.
So, what’s changed?
1. Simpler, clearer language. The bylaws are now easier to read and understand. This means all members can more easily see how things work and where they fit in.
2. Streamlined structure. Detailed procedures—like how meetings run or how committees work—have been moved out of the bylaws and into separate policies. That way, we can make updates more easily without needing a full member vote every time.
3. Updated governance. We’ve made some smart updates to reflect best practices:
- Officer roles are more clearly defined
- Rules around vacancies, quorum, and voting have been refreshed
- We’ve also added a requirement for directors & officers insurance to protect our volunteers
4. Better support for volunteers. Separating bylaws from policies helps us train new board members more easily and keeps things moving without long delays when small adjustments are needed.
5. More accountability and inclusion. The new bylaws make it clear that every member matters. They help ensure decisions reflect our community’s values of inclusion, transparency, and livability.
What happens next?
- We’ll file the new bylaws with Alberta’s Corporate Registry to make everything official.
- We’re reviewing and updating our policies and procedures to match the new structure.
- This fall, we’ll host a short info session for anyone who wants to learn more about how things work under the new bylaws.
